Website projection creation – Web-Working
Website design is one of the most important stages of site creation process. It allows you to answer 2 main questions.
1. How you should put the goals of the website into practice.
2. How the website should work.
Understanding the main issues, that may be of course a lot, and we do not consider that there is a specific problem, but the process can be observed.
Phase 1: collect information
Predictably, all the phases are connected to each other. So far, our first stage is to collect information, it is clear that further steps' direction depends on the results of this stage. Of course, you can get all the information a few days, but as it happens frequently, it is necessary to make clear this or that details of the issue. The important thing is to ask the right questions.
I. Learn what goals the project should carry out, what will be at the end. It is very important to find out the degrees of importance of those goals, understand the most important thing and why not so much important goals. It may seem it is obvious, but it is not always seen which one of these goals is primary and which one is secondary.
II. Ask the author of the project to detail the story what he's thought. Don't interrupt, listen patiently. You can say your comments and opinions at the end. When a person is excited by the idea of something, he can talk for hours, it is normal. After it you can come to an agreement and summarized in one sentence. But if everything is not clear, clarify at that moment to avoid further problems.
III. Find out what kind of competitors they have; direct or indirect. If you hear "I have no competitor" it means that he doesn't explore the market or he is an oligarch in all probability. There are always competitors even if you have an original idea there are at least indirect competitors.
IV. Make more exact the final deadline and what amount of money he's foreseen, find out who are the decision-makers, clear all the organizational issues. The information of the first phase will help you for future work. It is important to understand all the problems. Here, our mistakes can have grave consequences. Don’t forget to note the answers of all the questions on paper.
Phase 2: The goals of the project and the client
Each of the clients has clear goals. Some clients will want to make money through the sites and the others will want to widen the scope of their business via the sites, they will also want to share their hobby. Besides it, this project may have also a goal, and that may not correspond with theirs, so-called tree of goals. In order to achieve the client's main goal, the project can carry into life several small aims and after achieving it we will have the client's main goal result.
Let’s suppose a client wants to create a profitable business. This means that the designer must pay particular attention to the draft budget, and to avoid large initial costs, for instance, not to include a separate section of the video project.
Project. Create a social network for pets keepers.
Client goal. Get profit.
1. To help your pet selection.
2. To help solve the pets’ problems.
3. Create thematic groups.
4. Create information database on this aspect.
5. Create an environment where clients will buy and sell thematic items.
Stage 3: Target audience and character.
In fact, this problem is very important and it needs some deep analyses. We must understand for what audience we want to accomplish the project, which aims has to solve each of them and how they will find the answer of the questions in it. For a start, we must draw an overall picture of the target audience, dividing it into 4 groups, each of which will have its own standards which will have an effect on functionality and user interface of the project.
Social character reference. Gender, age, education, profit level, type of occupation. The information will be allowed you to assume as a correct basis.
Psychological character reference. Life, individual features, character traits, beliefs, value system. It’s more important information than the first group.
Behavior character reference. Subject for registering, the gain of search, the competitors’ frequent visits, willing to move to another site, treatment toward the project (if it is not new), tolerance to other sites, etc. There are many criteria, we must understand according to the project problems. At the same time such information is difficult to collect. This information may comprehend the client, if he has created a similar project bygone days and now just updates before the competitors’ eyes who naturally will not share with us, or even we should gather making various types of inquiries.
Geographical character reference. Country, city, region. Considering that we are on the Internet, information about the criteria of this group may not be so important if we don’t do demographics or state orders. In this case, the information of this group becomes extremely important. Understanding the target audience, we can move to the creation of the image. It is very interesting trick to generate future actions.
For example in the thematic social network among the group of IT professionals can be network administrator, programmer, director of the IT organization, etc. The main task of the design is to create a primary list of the target audience, from the largest to the smallest group of users. We should not forget that besides ordinary users, it might be our employees, partners, advertisers and other non-obvious users in this list.
For each group we mentally create a typical collective profile that will describe the group very well. Any such profile must have a name and a surname, but we should not use the famous people's names or acquaintance in order to avoid an association between the profile and that person. The profile must also have a picture or avatar, age, residence, occupation, marital status, short description of activity, habits, problems, life experience. So the profile has been created, but the same profile must be created for each group. Designer task is to enter into the model, to understand project according to it and to write concrete specific preferences and interests related with the project. We have no need to write a lot, 1,000 characters are more than enough.
For understanding of the target audience very well, they sometimes interview someone who is unknown but generally corresponds to its scope. But it is already a problem of marketing.
Stage 4: Researching competitors.
In order to create a quality project, we should know everything about the competitors, take into account their weaknesses, focus on strengths, understand in what way to get ahead of them, and to set ourselves concrete goals. That is why we must look for and find the direct or indirect competitors.
There are different methods for this search; to make an inquiry in this market, to make use of the published rankings, articles in the market, to take google - help.
Competitors can be divided into 2 groups: direct and indirect. Direct - they work in the same market, offer the same product / service, like you. Indirect competitors offer a part of your market, or meet some demands of your clients, indirectly reduce your profits.
Passing through these stages, and understanding clearly the goals of website and how much exact the target audience is chosen, we can say that your website will have a great success. Design is an important stage in the creation of sites.
